Is Tracy Spiridakos leaving Chicago PD?

Chicago PD unleashed a devastating blow, figuratively, and literally, in its latest episode. The final act of “House of Cards” saw a trio of IU officers try to apprehend criminals, only to be taken down by a massive explosion. While two of the officers recovered with minor injuries, the third, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), remained still on the ground.

It was a cliffhanger fit for a season finale, and yet it was the penultimate episode of season 9. The big question on everybody’s mind, of course, is whether Upton is alive. Furthermore, if Upton does survive, will the character be able to bounce back from the trauma of the incident and continue to work as a cop?

Here’s what we know about Upton and the actress who plays her, Tracy Spiridakos.

Is Hailey leaving Chicago PD?
While details about the season finale remain scarce, the few bits of information we have gotten suggest that Upton, and by extension, Spiridakos, is going to be sticking around. She appeared in the promo for the finale episode, which leads us to believe that she will get some screen time, and the showrunners have previously stated that the episode will focus more on the dynamic between Voight (Jason Beghe) and Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado ).

If Upton was truly dead and gone, then the bulk of the episode would focus on her and the brief the team would have to contend with. That’s to say nothing of her husband, Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), who’s likely to go on the warpath regardless of whether Upton is okay or not.

The man behind the explosion, Javier Escano (Jose Zuniga), has been a formidable villain thus far, but the last episode provided emotional stakes for both Halstead and Avalos, so the desire to put him behind bars is stronger than ever.

Spiridakos has not discussed any plans to exit the show, and generally, One Chicago actors spill the details on their contracts or their career decisions around the time of the season finale, so the fact that things have been silent on that front is another encouraging sign .

In truth, it’s very likely that Upton will stick around. The uncertainty kicks in when one considers how badly she was injured by the explosion, and how long she’ll be missing in action as a result. She may still be around, but she could come out of the hospital a changed person, mentally and physically.
